'Tiriodh' is made up of four young cousins (two sets of brothers). They formed in the summer of 2003 while they were on their annual family holiday to the Hebridean island of Tiree, which incidently, is where the band name comes from, as 'Tiriodh' is the Gaelic name for Tiree. They take many of their influences from west-coast music, one initial major contributor being the Tiree band ‘Skipinnish’.
Although they are fairly young, they already have quite a few years of musical experience between them.
Scot attended the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music at Plockton for two years, and is currently studying Folk & Traditional Music at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Craig is an active member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland as well as Methil and District Pipe Band. The two younger members also regularly compete in the Pipe band at Grade 3 level in National and International competitions.
‘Tiriodh’ has performed at ceilidhs and other functions up and down the country, and has twice been invited to play at the “Festival de la Saint Loup” in Brittany,
France. They also hope to produce a CD at some point in the near future.
